ABOUT NTA UGC NET

The UGC-NET exam is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on behalf of the University Grants Commission (UGC). This test is meant to check the eligibility of Indian students for two things – (1) Assistant Professor and (2) Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) with Assistant Professorship – in colleges and universities of India. From December 2018, the exam has been conducted in online mode (Computer-Based Test).

Selection for JRF or Assistant Professor depends on the overall marks in Paper-I and Paper-II. If a candidate qualifies only for Assistant Professor, then they will not get JRF. Also, candidates who clear the exam for Assistant Professor have to follow the recruitment rules of the concerned universities, colleges, or state governments.

The exam is held twice every year – in June and December. To keep the exam cycle regular, NTA along with UGC is conducting the December 2023 UGC-NET in 83 subjects at exam centers across India.
